Cafe

At the Priory Park Café you can expect a warm greeting from owners Flora and Sokol.

The Café is open 9 am - 6 pm every day. (Closes at 5pm in winter).

It is situated a short distance from the tennis courts, beside the paddling pool.

On offer are drinks, ice creams and a selection of delicious, mostly organic, home-made meals for adults and children.

You can speak to Flora, in the cafe,  regarding Pavilion Hire.

In 2023 the Café is celebrating its 70th birthday.  Research by Friends of Priory Park of Haringey Council Archives at the Bruce Castle Museum has revealed it opened for business as the Festival Paddling Pool and Tea Rooms on the 19th May.  The result of further research at the Hornsey Historical Society shows “mothers and children” making good use of the facilities in a picture taken on Tuesday 4th August 1953.

The paddling pool had already been available for use for a couple of years as it represented one of Hornsey’s contributions to the Festival of Britain in 1951 (The Festival of Britain · V&A (vam.ac.uk)).

On Thursday 12th October the cafe celebrated 70 years, Flora and Sokol hosted and the Friends Of Priory Park invited local people connected with the park to enjoy the festivities. Members of the Committee, volunteer gardeners and the new Pétanque group all attended. A display of council minutes (thanks @BruceCastleMus ) and newspaper articles (thanks @HornseyHistSoc ) over a 4 year period (1950 - 1953) tell the story of how it came into being, is on display now on the cafe wall.  A beautiful cake of the cafe and paddling pool was also made by Alice Tringham and was enjoyed by all.
